Deacying Animal world in Orissa

25.6.09. Samaja. Bargarh. Sparrows are coming back. During more than last 10 years sparrows who reside in human habitat were disappered in the city of Bargah. Now suddenly they are again seen chripping happily around houses, though they are very low in number. The reason behind their disappearance and coming back again to the city worth a proper study.

22.6.09. Samaja. Great Blue whales are now at Orissa coast. They are seen near Rusikulya since last three months. This may draw tourists here.

21.6.09. The New Indian Express. Giant Tortoises breed, flourish. Champeswar, a village 22 km from Badambain Cuttack district is an example of conservation of species with a culture-friendly. The Temple tank of the village is estimated to have over 200 giant fresh water tortoises, living for ages. The village has become a symbol of community conservation initiative by allowing tortoises to breed and to move freely. The conservation is made possible due to the faith of the villagers in Hindu cultural belief, where the tortoise is seen as the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

5.6.09. Samaja. Bear gouged out one eye of a old man. One old man and one woman was attacked by two wild bear in Kamira Village (Sonepur) near forest; they went out for a nature’s call. Both are admitted in hospital in serious condition.

11.5.09. Samaja. One boy is seriously injured in bear attack. One 14 year boy of Sunabeda village (Komna, Nuapada) was attacked by bear while returing from a nature’s call from a nearby water tank.

29.4.09. Samaja. One dead in bear attack. One women of Mendhamal village (Sonepur) entered Padhanpali forest (Kalapathar GP) to collect Kendu leaves was attacked by bear and died on spot.

26.4.09. The new Indian Express. Hyena creates panic in Cuttack. One hyena suddenly jumped into a betel shop near IPCOL square, Cuttack. This spread much panic, though none got injured by the animal. It was however capured by an expert team and transferred to Nandanknan zoo.

23.4.09. Samaja. One shepherd is injured by Bear attack. One young man of Nuagaon village (Kalapathar GP, BM Pur, Sonepur) is attacked by a bear in midday in Kuapabli forest near the village, where he went with goats; he got injured seriously.

22.4.09. Samaja. Youth injured by Monkey bite. One young man of Padiabahal area (Burla) was chasing monkeys in his garden, while one monkey got angry and bite his arm. He is admitted in hospital.

21.4.09. Samaja. One seriously injured in bear attack. One man of Karli village (Rajpur GP, Junagarh) went inside nearby village was attacked by a bear; he lost both the eyes and seriously injured by the animal.

Orissa is now standing near a cross road of environental challenges, Bio-Diversity and Climate change; this is clearly visible in its changing pattern of Animal world. Poor villagers are the first to meet this crisis. Local Newspapers everyday publish news on declining status of Animal world and Man-Animal tag of war to win life: -

Dated 26.2.2009. Samaja. Injured deer saved in Nuagarh. Some deers are living in Khuntapada Forest near Nuagarh village (Telkol block) and often and on these deers enter the village and face danger from Dogs or other. This baby deer also entered the village and attacked by dogs; villagers saved it, afterwards Range Officer and Forester reached the place and transfered it to Range office. Villagers want a Deer park to be established there.

Dated 10.2.2009. The New Indian Express. Pollution affecting Crow Population. In three panchayats of Jeypore district Industrial pollution has started to affect birds population, particularly the crows. Earlier the crow population was high in Umuri, Dhanpur and Kaligam Panchayat; but with the increasing number of Industry--now there are about 30 industries of paper, cashew nut processing, and cement in the panchayats--number of crows is declining.

Save Animal and Man.

In Orissa Animals and Rural people have now facing great challenge; Life is both of Man and Animals at stake now. Almost every day you will find a news on this in local newspapers. These say that it is high time that Social movements should be started to advocate government for appropriate actions to save Human beings also save the Forest and animals from death & extinction. I am compiling such news. Just see it and think to take steps:-
5.2.2009. Samaja. One dead in Monkey menance. One monkey jumped on a man who was travelling by motorcycle from Bragarh to Vatli; it happened near Pipalmunda village; the man lost balance .
5.2.2009. Samaja. One injured in Bear attack. One man of Chandipur village under Riamal PS is seriously injured by Bear attack. He went to near by forest to collect wood.
4.2.2009. . Samaja. Two held with Tiger skin. In sonepur two persons are arrested while they were trying to sell Tiger-skin; Sonepur range Officer and Manumunda Ranger posed as Traders to catch them red-handed.
3.2.2009. samaja. One Whale found dead on Gopalpur sea-shore. It is 21 feet in length, weight around one tonne.
26.1.2009. Samaja. One injured in Bear-attack. One man is seriously injured by Bear in Pitrimandi village under kashigumma Panchayat; the young man went for collecting fire-woods in nearby forest.
19.1.2009 Indian Express. One Balck Royal Bengal Tiger is spotted in Simlipal Tiger Reserve

Animal World: Orissa

Animal World of Orissa is facing a grave chalenge of existence by the changing of environment, Decaying Forests, increasing mining activities, Construction of Dam and Reserviors and oher man-made destructions; Animals now are out of their own space-- and now either animals are killing human or being killed by them. I have collected some news from Local nespapers just read it:

6.1.2009. White Cobra, a rare species discovered. The snake is 4 feet in length and 2 inch in round; it is discovered from Blipaida village (Nagaspur panchayat), while a an was digging sweet potatoes in his field. The villagers kept it with much live and care, offered frogs, milk etc to eat.

28.12.2008. Samaja. A girl (5 yrs) is seriously injured in Bear attack at backyard of her house around 3 pm in Khirpur village of Jaloi Gp, Birmaharajpur Block (Sonepur district). The bear was thee when she went out of house.
26.12.2008. Samaja. A dead deer recovered by Forest department from a pond near Behera of Dharmagarh Block.
22.12.08. Samaja. Rare fish found; a rare species of fish, weighing about 97 kg has been caught in fishing net in the river Kharasrota, a tributary of Btahmani. Villagers started worship it as mythological “Matsya’ incarnation. Later the fish was sold to Kolkata market.
4.12.2008. Samaja. Youth seriously injured in Bear attack in kutasingha village of Naktideol P.S. He went out in evening with friends to meet a nature’s call near a revulate, when the Bear attacked and injured him.
22.11.2008. Samaja. 16 feet long Ajagar (Python) injured by mob, but no action from Forest department for it’s healing. In barashuli rock, near Chandia (Dhangadi Block) a long Python swallowed a goat, mob rushed and injured the Python and take out the goat from its gripe. Thaey left the Python as it is.
22.11.2008. Samaja. Another Python is killed for swallowing a goat. In the Child Prak near Bhanjanagar Reservoir a Python swallowed a goat and climbed on a Mango tree to digest it. The inhabitants of the near by colony killed the Python with big knife and sharp weapons and took out the goat.
15.10.2008. Samaja.Vampires (Vegetarian) are protected and given space to thrive in Temple in Bargarh. As a religious tradition of Hinduism different animals and birds are given protection in Temples. For example Maneswar Temple gives shelter to Tortoises, Turtles, Huma Shiv Temple extends shelter to Kudo fishes, Shiva Sambhu Temple (Bhatli) to Baga, Ambabhona Shiva Temple to Fishes, Deogaon Asta sambhu Temple to Doves, Swarna and Saranda Shive temple gives shelter to fishs etc.The famous Gaisama Asta Sambhu Temple is also an example of it. Here the vampires who eat over Fruits are given shelter since times unknown. None kills or disturbs thse birds
12.10.2008. Samaja. Crocodile lied injured for two days in Tikrapada Goindi, none informed Forest department, and it died out of deep injury.
